The 11th Doctor, Babywearing Advocate

The Doctor, Craig and Alfie

The Doctor, Craig and Alfie

In the latest episode of Doctor Who, “Closing Time”, the 11th Doctor is on a farewell tour of sorts and pays a call to a friend of his named Craig Owens. As luck would have it, poor Craig is alone with the baby for the first time ever while Mummy’s on holiday and he isn’t handling it well. Luckily for him, the Doctor speaks baby. Of course, Craig ends up caught up in one of the Doctor’s adventures. (As if being left alone with the baby isn’t enough of an adventure, right??)

"You're far too slow when he summons you."

"You're far too slow when he summons you."

As they’re staking out a shop to track down a Cybermat, the Doctor pulls out a baby carrier (which he handily got on sale for 10% off) and hands it to Craig. “Alfie wants you attached to him. You’re far too slow when he summons you.”

LOL! The Doctor advocates babywearing :D Whovians, wear your babies!! Even The Doctor agrees!

I love it when geekery and real life interests coincide. And as a bonus, the Doctor holding baby Alfie. Pretty awesome scene if you ask me. :) The Doctor gets along well with kiddies :D

But wait, there’s more! Here’s a clip from Doctor Who Confidential — a behind the scenes look with Matt Smith (in full costume) singing to one of the babies between takes. ADORABLE! :D (Dude, seriously, I would totally hire him as a baby sitter. Matt Smith, if you ever read this, I’d pay you in badgers!!)

Our love language

Every couple has their own “love language”. Some couples get each other gifts — flowers and jewelry for her, and (… uh, what DO women buy men?…) for him — to show their affection. Other couples leave sweet little notes or text messages to let their partner know they’re thinking about them.

The Hubs ™ and I have our own love language, spoken thusly. Over IM. Because it’s easier that way.

  • The Hubs ™: So…
  • Me: ??
  • The Hubs ™: Want me to suffer through FFXIV for you?

This, folks, is what passes for romance in our household.  The Hubs ™ being ever willing to slog through (yet another) MMO that he knows I am interested even though he has no interest in it whatsoever. Our love language is him rolling up characters and slogging through what we not-so-affectionately term as  “level stupid” where you’re a newbie in the game, with no skills, armor or money, trying to find the best way to level and build up our characters, all during the release week server crunch.

All this so he can help power level my character so I don’t have to slog through level stupid for nearly as long as he had to <3

I love our crazy gamer geek love. I really do.

Squeeing from afar…

Yes, I’d still rather be at Comic-Con but at least the blogosphere is keeping me in the loop with what’s being released.

King of All Geeks Joss Whedon to direct AVENGERS movie – Geeks everywhere are rejoicing! (Me included and I’m not even a huge Marvel fan.) I love it when Hollywood buys a freakin’ clue and lets a person that has a real passion and understanding of the source material have such a huge role in the production of a movie. Joss Whedon is a creative genius and King of All Geeks and I know he’ll do justice to AVENGERS.

Return of Bruce Wayne – I’m a Batman fangirl at the core of my fangirly heart but this does not induce a squee from me. YAWN. I’m tired with all the crap that DC is pulling, changing around characters. Bring back Cassandra Cain and maybe I’ll pay attention again. Pfft.

Thor Kicks a Puppy in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. [via Kotaku] – Looks like my favorite goddess-wolf will be making an appearance in the latest Marvel vs. Capcom video game! Okami was quite possibly one of the best games ever created and I’m glad to see Amaterasu-wolf making an appearance in this game!

I’d Rather Be At San Diego Comic-Con

San Diego Comic Con

San Diego Comic Con

San Diego Comic-Con is this weekend. And I’m not there.

I can’t begin to express how much this depresses me. *sigh* I am a very sad geek mom. Not only am I a huge comic fan, my favorite TV shows (namely Bones, Leverage, Big Bang Theory and Burn Notice) will all be there as well as the ever lovely Cindy Pon who will be leading the Young Adult panel (Hey — any comic companies out there want to sponsor a geeky, work at home mom blogger to comic conventions? *hopeful* I figure I’m far beyond any type of dignity at this point and all out BEGGING may just get me somewhere for next year.)

So taking a page from The Kitchn, here’s a few links in honor of my geek breatheren that I am not currently carousing with. *pout*

  • 10 Nerdy Kitchen Finds (via The Kitchn)
Is it wrong of me to really, really want the Star Wars apron?
  • Con Anti-Harrasment Project (via Girl Wonder)
Because conventions should be about fandom and community, not harassment!
  • Female Friendly Comic Stores (via Girl Wonder)
Where you don’t have to explain: “No, I’m not picking up comics for my husband/fiance/brother/cousin. These are mine.”
And it is always great not to feel like you have to say: “Stop leering at me.”
  • @GailSimone (via Twitter)
My most favoritest (that’s a word, dammit) comic book author in the world. She’s all that, a bag of chips with cherries on top. Or something. Just trust me on this. She will be at Comic Con for three panels on Thursday and Friday.
  • @CindyPon (via Twitter)
An awesome author who penned Silver Phoenix: Beyond the Kingdom of Xia. She’s a lovely lady whose journal I have been following for years. She will be at Comic Con on Sunday, moderating the Young Adults fiction panel.

Disclaimer: None of the links are sponsored. The Silver Phoenix link is through my Amazon Affiliate account. (Seriously, it is a great book! Read it if you have a chance) Considering how much I’m gushing about them, that’s almost sad. Almost. But I truly like/support all of these things so I’m more than happy to gush about them. But hey, comic companies! Sponsor a Mom blogger? C’mon! You know you want to!

Why yes, we are geeks…

Since The Hubster is at work most of the day, we do a lot of our communicating through IM and we end up sharing a lot of links. Of course, this is standard for most folks so that’s not what makes us geeks.

No, conversations like the following makes us geeks:

The Hubster ™: http://kotaku.com/5585676/double+decker-tvs-perfect-for-his-and-her-gaming

Me: DUDE THAT IS GEEK LOVE.

Me: I want that in the family room.

The Hubster ™: Same

The Hubster ™: Lets plan for it

Me: AWESOME.

Me: But we’ll need dual towers in the family room and some kind of comfortable set up so we can both play Star Wars The Old Republic MMO together.

Me: (… damn, we are geeks, holy crap.)

As well as…

The Hubster ™: Also
The Hubster ™: http://kotaku.com/5585447/this-chun+li-has-tiny-thighs
Me: That is the cutest not-TLE Chun Li EVER.
The Hubster ™: Yup
Me: TLE should be old enough for cosplay next year.
Me: What characters can we dress TLE as :/
Me: I was hoping for (Card Captor) Sakura but she’s no CCSakura.

Sakura Kinomoto

Sakura Kinomoto (from Card Captor Sakura)

Me: Well, maybe (Street Fighter series) Sakura

Sakura Kasugano (Street Fighter)

Sakura Kasugano (from Street Fighter Alpha 2)

The Hubster ™: And yeah, she’s definitely more that Sakura.

Proof that The Hubster ™ and I are complete geeks.

#1 – We spent our Friday night… watching the Season 4 Teen Titans animated television series on DVD.

#2 – We spent the evening making comments like:

During a Raven episode

Me: “… hey, didn’t Robin just train all those ghosts onto them?”
The Hubster (TM): “Don’t worry, they’ll drop aggro soon.”
Me: “Hey, looks like they dropped aggro by zoning!”

During the Starfire & Robin episode

Me: “Aww, Robin is emotion dyslexic… such a Bat.”
TH: “Oh dear god Robin. Whatever he does, I hope he doesn’t ask Bruce for relationship advice!”

During a Cyborg episode

Me: “Oh, we know Cyborg’s lust for that chip.”
TH: “And the chip is made by Star Labs!”
Me: “Second only to Wayne Enterprises.”

Me: “Aah, he’s overclocking himself!”
TH: “Yep.”
Me: “I wonder if he invested in a good heat sink. Water cooling would probably be good.”

#3 – When confronting The Hubster ™ about his “”Aww, they’re so cute!” about Starfire & Robin…

TH: “Sue me, I like cute couples.”
Me: “… so what would you call us?”
TH: “…”

Yes. We spend our free time geeking out while watching kiddie cartoons based on comic books and making dumb snarky commentary about them. Which is pretty much what we did before The Little Empress was born. Who said that your life is never the same after having a kid? Although she’ll probably rolling her eyes at us and wondering why she has such unrepentant geeks for parents soon enough. :)
