Catching Up

It seems that the more I have to write about, the less I actually write. Funny how that works. In the meantime, pictures are worth a thousand words so here’s the equivalent of 6k or so…

We took a road trip to see family in SoCal over Thanksgiving. Lots of food and lots of company was to be had. But perhaps the best part was seeing how much The Little Empress loved playing with her cousins A1 & A2. The boys showed her a favorite place of theirs to play: Dirt Hill! Forget fancy toys, all a kid really needs to have fun is a huge pile of dirt! TLE loved it!

While digging around in the dirt, the boys unearthed this fellow.

We have no idea what he was but he was a big guy!

Ever since we left, TLE has been asking to go back to play with her cousins. Next summer, for sure!

While we were down there, we also went to the Santa Ana Zoo. The zoo itself is pretty small but it was a great place to explore and run around on Thanksgiving morning.

Since getting back, we’ve been getting ready for the holiday (holidaze) season. We took TLE to her annual visit to Santa, dressed in her new pretty velvet blue dress. She had waaaaaay more fun playing in the waiting area with the “snow” than she actually did seeing Santa.

The next week, we went to a friend’s house one afternoon to make “gingerbread” houses out of graham crackers. It was a lot of fun!

But TLE had way more fun playing with her friends and having candy for lunch than she did actually making the house. :) Figures.

Chocolate for lunch? AWESOME.

“Want to go for ice cream?”

Ice cream cone

The Little Empress enjoying (yet another) summer ice cream cone

If it seems like I have a disproportionate amount of The Little Empress eating ice cream pictures posted on my blog, it is because my usual bribe treat is ice cream. A scoop of ice cream is her treat for having a good week at school, a doctor’s visit that didn’t result in a tantrum or to make an otherwise ordinary summer day into a special one.

Sometimes I worry that I’m spoiling her a bit on ice cream. She’s still a wee thing, barely on the weight charts, so high calorie foods like ice cream get the green light from her doctor. Still, I try to make it only a twice a month treat. But she does love it so. Her eyes light up and she claps happily whenever I mention going for ice cream. After all, what’s better than getting an entire cup of ice cream to yourself when you’re 2?

And honestly, when the local ice cream shop is a mere $1 a scoop, how can I say no? We may not be able to afford much but this is just too good of a treat to pass up.

Fun night

Posted by on Jan 20, 2009 in Babywearing, Life | 1 comment

I just said goodbye to some friends after spending the evening playing Rock Band 2, watching anime and YouTube finds and noshing on pizza. Fun times were had by all, including The Little Empress. She was a bit fussy at times but went down for nap and then finally for the night while being worn, allowing Mommy to play Rock Band and have fun with friends but still be close to baby. It is a testament to how well she sleeps in carriers that she didn’t wake up even when Rock Band was blasting in the background. Babywearing for the win!!
