Too bad you didn't really have a handy brick available. You could have throttled them and let them cry it out so that they learn independence and how to recover from their injuries without all that pesky invasive assistance from others. ;)

I want a brick too!

I feel the same way about AP as you - it's how I do things and it's wonderful. It isn't for everyone - I totally understand that.

But the "picking up a crying baby will spoil them" bullshit? Sooo 1950's. *rolls eyes* I let my daughter fuss for a minute while I rinse poo off one of her diapers (we use cloth), or as I use the bathroom (but I've held her in my arms more often than not while I go!), or as I put on a carrier or wrap (though she usually is very calm when she sees me buckling on the carrier or wrapping, as if she knows she's about to be snuggled against me while I go about my day).

Like you said, babies cry because they have a need, and even if that need is to have their loneliness alleviated, that is no less important than feeding them or changing a dirty diaper!

I just think it's horrifying to let babies cry it out. >:(
