The Little Empress or TLE is my daughter. No, her name isn’t Empress but since she was born, she’s ruled this house. As I’ve lamented time and again, princesses are satisfied with being pampered but this little one prefers to rule.
She was born in March 2008. As of this writing, she is 3 1/2 years old. She’s a vivacious, spirited little girl who is not afraid to do everything in her power to make sure she gets her way.
The Little Empress was a high needs infant who grew to be a spirited toddler. At two years old, she was diagnosed with a speech delayed and received a year of Early Intervention services which helped immensely! She’s no longer considered delayed and is thriving at a typical preschool.
The Hubster AKA Kyo is my husband. No, his name isn’t really Kyo but it may as well be because that’s what most people call him. We’ve been together for nearly seven years, married for three after a three year engagement. We’ve promised our families a big wedding but never quite got around to having it. Oops.
I love him dearly but The Hubster ™ can be a prickly fellow. I have likened him to an ill-socialized German Shepherd: he cares little for people he doesn’t know but is loyal to his friends and fiercely protective of his family.
He enjoys playing games of all types and works in the video game industry. He doesn’t gift me with flowers and candy — instead he power levels my characters so I don’t have to. <3 If that ain’t g33k love, I don’t know what is.
Miyuki AKA The Mutt ™ is my dog. Back in May 2006, I visited The Berkeley East Bay Humane Society and met this spastic energetic licking machine loving animal. She was so excited to be out of her cage that she zoomed around the room, knocking over tables and stuffed chairs. She had been a guest of the BEBHS for over a month. For some reason, no one wanted to adopt her! I wonder why!
She’s intelligent, loving, energetic, an eating machine and incredible wimp whose bark is much worse than her bite. These days, she spends her days laying around and waiting for food which is usually fed to her by a very obliging TLE. Though I’ve caught them in the act several times — usually with TLE with a half eaten cracker in her mouth with Miyuki suspiciously licking crumbs her face — I have not been able to stop them. I don’t think I ever will.
The Little Empress almost always laughs whenever she sees Miyuki. We’re not sure why but this is a definite improvement from when she just glared at her disdainfully. The two have a symbiotic relationship — The Little Empress drops food and the dog eats it. They’re both perfectly happy with this arrangement. My floors stay relatively clean as a result so I see no problem with this. It seems that these two are well on their way to being best friends for life.
