Here’s my entry for What’s Your Play #39 – Rings

WYP - 39

Software: Lightroom 2 — one of the first times I’ve used LR and I’ve fallen head over heels in love with it. So powerful! So shiny! So… expensive. Ow.

What I did and why:

  • I tweaked the color a bit, boosting the saturation and vibrancy in particular as well as the white balance. I had tried using an LR preset that I just didn’t find myself very happy with. Playing with the sliders and working with curves was more familiar and gave me a better result than the presets.
  • I started playing around with the sharpening slider and was amazed at the difference it made in the detail on the rings. Wow!
  • I tried a number of different crops but decided I liked this 5×7 one the best.
  • After all was said and done, I added a slight vignette to finish it off. :) Whee!

Hi there, I love your edit. I use photoshop, not light room but I’m intrigued to try it now.

LightRoom 2 is available from the Adobe site as a trial. Very powerful tool and very fun to use! I think I could be very happy with Elements and Lightroom.

Hi! I’m so glad you joined in on WYP at dolcepics.com! This is awesome! Thanks for the detailed explanation too. Great to see your thought processes and experimentation. Isn’t LR awesome? Now you can go hunt for some great free presets available on the web (preset heaven, flickr groups etc). The default ones are a little disappointing so try some others that users have created themselves. Again, thanks for playing!

Thanks for hosting! This is a fun weekly project. When I have time, I’m thinking to go back into the archives to see what else I can come up with.
