One of the new trends in cloth diapering seems to be the one size diaper. Instead of having to buy the next size up of cloth diapers, the idea behind cloth is that you can buy one diaper that will last from the time your baby is a newborn until they are older. Great concept but how is it in practice? I made it my job to find out.
Fuzzi Bunz is one of the best known brands of pocket cloth diapers and is a favorite among parents new to cloth diapering due to ease of use and availability. Fuzzi Bunz make up a bulk of my own cloth diaper stash and I own diapers in the older style as well as the current style. I consider them an essential part of my cloth diaper routine and are my favorite brand of pocket diapers.
When I found out that Fuzzi Bunz had come out with a new one size style, I knew I had to try them. And here it is… the one size Fuzzi Bunz!
From the outside, it looks just like another Fuzzi Bunz brand diaper and it is made of the same materials as their previous types.
Opening the diaper, it may be difficult to see what is different about the one size version but closer inspection reveals an adjustable elastic at the waistband and at the bottom and top of the legs.
Here’s an overview of the adjustable elastics pulled out for illustration purposes. The elastic has three button holes on each side, allowing a parent to either take in or let out various parts of the waist and rise as needed.
The elastic ends tuck into the diaper for a more trim look which is nice — I’d rather not have elastics hanging out to possibly get gunked up with baby poop.
Though we received the diaper last week, this diaper hasn’t yet made it into our cloth diaper rotation since The Little Empress has been mostly sposie diapered due to being sick. (I prefer to cloth diaper but when juggling a sick baby, I’d rather not deal with sick-baby diaper laundry on top of it!) However, I’m happy to report that The Little Empress is feeling better now so check back next week for an update on our experience with the Fuzzi Bunz one size!

Hi,I find out that your web site is quite educational and useful and we were interested if there is a possibility of getting More web content like this on your web log. If you willing to aid us out, we can be willing to compensate you… Best wishes, Lester Hatlee
Hello! I found your thread on TBW and wanted to see your review. I used FBs exclusively with my toddler and would love to see how these work! Thanks!
This is an update to all of the reviews that I posted on the one-size fuzzi bunz here.
I recently had problems with the elastic stretching and curling up at the ends and not staying in the diapers.
I contacted Kim Walker at Fuzzi Bunz. She contacted me back and instructed me to ship my diapers (all 12) to them to repair the elastic. She stated they would need to see them.
So, they expected me to ship the diapers to them at MY expense even though it is advertised that it is free elastic replacement within warranty. Additionally, they expected me to go without 12 diapers that we are currently using.
I wrote back to her and stated that I didn’t want to pay the shipping cost and couldn’t do without the diapers. I stated that when I purchased the diapers, the packaging that they came in stated that if the elastic wore out within 18 months that they would replace it for free and the replacement elastic would be shipped to you.
After sending the email about the elastic warranty, I have not received a response from Kim Walker at Fuzzi Bunz. It has been a week and a half. I have contacted her via email twice.
If Fuzzi Bunz will not stand behind this new product, I don’t think that it is worth purchasing. One of the biggest selling points for me was the ease of elastic replacement.
However, if Fuzzi Bunz won’t stand by their advertised warranty, won’t communicate, and has conflicting info on their warranties, then perhaps it is not worth purchasing these diapers!
Conflicting Warranty Info:
The packaging the diapers came in, the tag sewn into the diaper, and the Fuzzi bunz website all say DIFFERENT things under the warranty section!
While I understand that the one size diapers are a fairly new product and that they may want to inspect the diapers for defects to improve their product, they didn’t put it this way to me in the email. They simply said that they would need to see them and gave me the address to ship them to. When I contacted them to say that this was unacceptable, no response!
Why should I be out the shipping money AND be inconvenienced by not having enough diapers? Where is the customer service? Why have I not been contacted?
As a busy mom, this lack of customer service, lack of standing behind their product, and not following their own advertisement has made me reverse my opinion of buying the one-size fuzzi bunz.
My recommendation is to not buy these!
Thanks for the overview! I am really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the one size vs. the perfect size as I try to decide whether to get the one size or small for my newborn.
I’ll be following too. I am considering converting to cloth after diapers 6 kids in disposables. I was leaning towards Bum Genius All in Ones, but these look good too.

I’ll be following with interest
I have mostly WAHM pockets and a couple of BG + 5 AIO Kushies for night time.
I really like that idea of elastic adjustment…that has been a problem of ours since the start.
So, don’t forget to update when you get a chance
I recently purchased some of the fuzzi bunz one size diapers. I have used MOST of the cloth diapering systems out there. I finally settled on Fuzzi Bunz (even though they were not one size diapers). I have less leaks or problems with Fuzzi Bunz than any other diapering system.
That said, onto the new fuzzi bunz one size diaper. I LOVE THEM! This is amazing. I love that you adjust the diaper by adjusting the elastic, tuck in the excess, and you don’t have to mess with it every time you wash the diaper (unlike snap down rise systems). This diaper is highly adjustable. Best of all, if the elastic needs replacing, you won’t need a seamstress to do it! Also, it comes with 2 QUALITY inserts. One large and one small insert is included. Also, when your child uses the diaper as a large, you can use both inserts in the diaper for maximum absorbancy. This is the best one size diaper that I have seen. Two things: It isn’t as trim as the “perfect fit” fuzzi bunz (especially on the smallest size) and the snaps are different than the “perfect fit” fuzzi bunz. Instead of having two rows of snaps, it just has one.
Overall, I am very impressed and will probably buy more.
I hope this review helps those of you looking to try out the one-size fuzzi bunz.

So, would you suggest I go with the one size or the perfect fit to start out with? Im due in may and Im really trying to decide which to do. Thanks for your help.
thank you

Hi, is this your first child? My son was only 6lb 10oz when he was born. He was too small for the size small fuzzi bunz. If your child is under 8-10 pounds, the small diapers ARE HUGE! Also, the one size diapers are even bigger.
I wouldn’t recommend the one size diapers for a baby under 10 pounds. However, they reach this weight so quickly.
My recommendation would be to buy some of the x-small FB and then purchase the one-size diapers. Both the FB and Bum Genius are good one size diapers. Just depends on whether you want velcro or snaps. Also, it can be a pain to find the right fit on the elastic for the FB (once you do they are great).
Also, if you are looking to save money and for a different one-size diaper with non-scratchy elastic, check out Angel Luvz diapers. She sells on ebay and on etsy. She uses touch tape closures (much better than velcro). She makes different types of diapers. I have only used the one-size diaper. These are a snap down rise system similar to Bum Genuis and Happy Heiny. Note: She smokes, so you will have to remove the smell with oxyclean. Also, stay away from the prints. Go with just the PUL. The cotton prints over the PUL have wicking issues and it is just a pain to have to keep applying waterproofing spray. Also, you will need to purchase inserts separately or make your own. Hint: Microfiber is sold for very cheap in the automotive section! Anyway, these are very well sewn diapers and worth the hassle of getting the smoke smell out. I purchased extra inserts from nurtured family. We use these as our night time diaper. We have been using the same diapers since he was about 4 weeks old (8-10 pounds). He currently weighs 20 pounds. It is nice to have some diapers with velcro (or touch tape) for quick nighttime changes. My son howls like I am killing him during nighttime changes!
Here is what I use:
Daytime: Fuzzi Bunz (I use the medium and the one-size diapers) Cost: $17.95-$19.95 per diaper. Diapers come with inserts.
Nighttime: Angel Luvz (one-size diapers- BUY PUL NOT THE PRINTS!)Cost: $10-$13 per diaper. Inserts are not included. If you like these diapers, she (Dorothy) will take custom orders- saves you on shipping and you get exactly what you want. She will also give you options on color of PUL, and even color on the suede cloth (if possible).
This is probably more info than you really wanted. If this is your first child and you don’t have experience with using cloth diapers, here is my recommendation:
Buy just a few of the x-small FB (if this is your first child and you anticipate a baby under 8 pounds). Make sure that using cloth diapers will fit into your lifestyle before you invest too much money. If you are serious about using cloth diapers, make sure that you purchase all that you need to be a sucess! Minimally, you will need the diapers, inserts, a diaper pail, diaper pail liners (I highly recommend the washable wahmies, but you can use trash bags), wash clothes, detergent (such as Allen’s) and possibly the disposable liners. I don’t use the disposable liners. I purchased fleece from wal-mart and I line my diapers with it. Just to keep the diapers stain free. Also, you can remove them from the diaper for quicker clean-up. The reason that I don’t use the disposable liners is that I have the mini-shower sprayer attached to my toilet. I consider this a MUST if you are going to cloth diaper full time! If you have friends with small children or infants in diapers, you can buy one of the one-size diapers of each brand (Fuzzi Bunz, Bum Genius, and Angel Luvz). Beg your friend to experiment on their child. Also, discuss and experiment with the different styles with your partner. Some of them have definite opinions! My husband has endured me trying tons of different cloth diapers and is an expert himself!
What I recommend you stay away from:
-Any diaper that has a fabric over the PUL. You will have wicking issues. Think of a cold coke can!
-Beware the cheaper deal. Fuzzi Bunz and Bum Genius are more money. There is a good reason! Worth every penny as far as I am concerned!
Personally, I DO NOT LIKE:
-Wonderworks, wonderoos, green and comfy
-Most all-in-ones. Even though you don’t have to spend time stuffing them like the pocket diapers, these diapers have a fabric over the PUL and have wicking issues. Many come treated with the waterproofing spray. This spray quickly wears away, especially if you use things to strip the smells out of your diapers- oxyclean, vinegar, baking soda, etc.
I hope this helps and congratulations!

KS-
I recently got the Fuzzi Bunz OS after using mostly Bum Genius. I really would like to love them- but I have had nothing but leaking around the legs! UGH! My son is 11 months old and around 25 pounds? Suggestions? I have tighten the elastic around the thighs so much to leave marks on his legs. It seems to me that the rise of the diaper is too long and having only one row of snaps doesn’t seem for a good fit? I would love any suggestions! Thanks.
Hi, my son is 6 months old and weighs 20 pounds and is almost 28 inches, he is very tall and chunky. I had to try several settings to get the leg casings correct. My advice is to make sure that you are not tightening the back elastic as much as the front elastic. Currently, I have 2 open places in the elastic towards the back and 4 open places in the elastic toward the front. I don’t have my elastic tight enough to leave marks and have no leakage problems. My son is very active as well. Additionally, it is very important to adjust the elastic around the waist for a snug (no marks) fit. This keeps the diaper in place and keeps it from sagging around the waist. At first, I didn’t have this adjusted correctly. It was fairly loose and I couldn’t seem to get the legs to stop leaking. So, try adjusting the waist. I measured the adjustments from my “perfect fit” fuzzi bunz to begin with, then I had to tighten some more. It seems that the elastic is a little stretchier. It is an experiment to find the right setting, but once I did, it works as well as the original for me. Just a little bulkier! Hope this helps! KS
Hi, I forgot to mention that when I put the one size diapers on, I always tuck in the front of the diaper behind the area with the snap. Just helps the fit. Let me know if you have problems still! I personally haven’t had leaks from since I readjusted my one size FB. However, when my son sleeps in these diapers, I sometimes have leaks. This is because I only have one insert in them and they aren’t absorbent enough! For a nighttime diaper, I have 3 inserts in one diaper(I use angel luvz at night). My son is a very heavy wetter.
By the way, I am not associated with any diaper makers. I am a stay at home mom. I have just experimented with many types of diapers. I tried to find reviews on the new fuzzi bunz one size diaper before I bought them. I couldn’t find any. That is why I decided to take the time to write here. I hope this info helps someone else make the decision on whether or not to buy fuzzi bunz cloth diapers and what to stay away from.
I started out using AIOs (all-in-ones) and also some fitted diapers. I loved the prints of the AIOs. However, I hated the wicking. So practicality demanded that I try the pocket diapers (Fuzzi Bunz) that I had read such rave reviews about. I also tried other pocket PUL diapers. Fuzzi Bunz are still my favorite. Angel Luvz are a close second. However, Fuzzi Bunz will last longer (snaps and material are better). I love the perfect fit Fuzzi Bunz. They are a trimmer and more hassle-free diaper. If money is no object, I recommend these. However, the Fuzzi Bunz One Size diaper is a close second to the perfect fit FB. It is a much better financial investment.
I take very good care of my diapers. I use Allen’s or the Fuzzi Bunz detergent and I only line dry my diapers. I expect my Fuzzi Bunz to last through all of my children. Then, they will most likely still be in good enough shape to resell. Speaking of reselling used cloth diapers, if you are looking to sell them, check out http://www.myuseddiapers.com. It is free to list and they only take 5% of what they sell for. Ebay no longer allows the sale of used diapers. You can also find gently used Fuzzi Bunz for a great price.
ahhhhh…..thanks for your help……
i am managing much better w/ my FB….i have let out the waist setting and have found multiples washings to help. these have not leaked recently- however, i dare not to sleep him in these at night or send him to day care in these in fear of the day care lady does not snap them up properly. however- i do love the snaps on these! i do hang dry all my diapers and use allen’s detergent most of the time. i still love my bumgenius- but wish they would come up w/ a snap design on the regular 3.0 diapers. i do have a few ” bee behinds”- these are super absorbant for night, but do require a cover. thanks again for your tips- i did find that it took some time to find the right elastic adjustments on the FB for my 25 pound, 32 inch 11 month old.
I am so glad that you were able to get these to work for you.
I also had to work with these diapers to find the right setting. Now, I have no leaks. We like to put these on our son right before bed. That way, if he accidentally falls asleep in them, we are less likely to have leaks than with the FB perfect fit size. The only reason that we have less leaks with the one size diaper is that the insert is MUCH thicker than the insert that came with the perfect fit medium diaper.
I will say that if you don’t put this diaper on correctly it leaks. My mother just can’t seem to get the hang of it. Often she only snaps 2 out of the 4 snaps. Also, she doesn’t tuck the wings in. I completely understand not using these at your daycare. If you are not used to putting them on, you may not do it correctly and it may leak. With the other style of FB (2 rows of snaps), it is less likely to have user error!
By the way, they are getting rid of the Fuzzi Bunz one size diaper (like this) and supposedly replacing it with a Fuzzi Bunz one size diaper that has 2 rows of snaps. This will probably solve these issues. However, if you are looking for a cheaper deal, Kelly’s closet is selling the FB one-size diapers for $16.95/diaper and only $15.95 per diaper if you buy at least 12. Enter the code “trees” when checking out and save an additional 5%. If you buy 12 FB one-size diapers it ends up costing $15.15/diaper. That is almost $5 off/diaper!!! So, if you can live with the current design, it is a great deal.
