DIY leg warmers

Posted by on Nov 8, 2008 in Crafting | 0 comments

So in between several screaming fits, I was able to get some quality time in with the new sewing machine. I love it and I’m totally planning for more projects.

I bought a bunch of socks on sale at Target the other day because the weather is turning a lot colder and The Little Empress spends a lot of time in onesies. I know, I could just put socks and pants on her but that’d make sense.

I found some tutorials including Cousin L’s tutorial as well as another Flickr tutorial. And, as I usually do, I skimmed the instructions and went… dude, I could totally do this! :D

And off I went! And this is what I came up with…

Sewing Lesson #2 – READ THE TUTORIALS THOROUGHLY. Because this is what happens when you don’t. Oops.

So I read the tutorials again… slower this time… went OH! Oops. And then came up with this…

Woohoo! Yes! Third time’s a charm! It isn’t perfect but at least they are wearable and they’ll keep her legs warm. I’ve got plenty of socks to make more.

And here’s The Little Empress with her new warm legs!

I can feel the sewing bug biting me. I’ve been looking around the house for scraps to start a few more projects, including sewing up some more prefold diapers for The Little Empress. :D

In need of a tiny break…

This is a NaBloPoMo entry for November 2008

When I went back to work, the fact that I was gone for nearly 12 hours a day nearly killed me. I hated being away from The Little Empress and she hated it too. And, for the record, so did The Hubster ™ who was playing stay at home daddy for the time. It was a miserable time for our little family.

I love being home with The Little Empress and I don’t take it for granted. However, I’m running into the problem that most other stay at home moms have — no time for yourself! Since July, I can count only two hours that I’ve been “alone” which were the two times I went to go interview subjects for articles without The Little Empress in tow. Both times, The Hubster ™ and my sister reported that TLE had done nothing but s c r e a m for me while I was gone; my sister actually begged me never to leave her alone with TLE ever again… well, not until she got over her seperation anxiety.

*sigh*

I’m sure many SAHMs can relate. Frankly, it is driving me batty. The Hubster ™, bless him, helps out when he can by taking TLE for a few minutes so I can do things like quick chores or eat. But these little sessions can only go about 10 minutes tops until she’s had enough and decides that she wants Mommy again and she is neither quiet nor gracious about asking for Mommy.

I’ve held a long cherished delusion that I can find a 2 hour stretch where I can just relax in my bath tub, playing some music and just relax. I can see now why SAHM groups have Mom’s Night Out — we need them!! Alas, it will be awhile before I get such a break.

And on an unrelated note, I really need to put a pink headband or something on TLE’s head while we’re out. Despite all the cute, pink clothes that I have for TLE, it is usually most practical to put her in a onesie. Usually a pink onesie but her cold weather onesies are white. That, coupled with the fact that she’s normally in a blue print carrier, leads most people to believe that TLE is a boy. “Oh what a handsome little guy you’ve got there!” Oops.
