Teething — The Second Colic

The Little Empress has been showing teething symptoms for the past three months: drooling, biting, otherwise unexplained fussiness. But it seems that it is all coming to a head now because for the past few days she has been The Little Demoness with her squealing, back arching and other howls of pain and suffering. Nothing seems to work to quell the sudden stabs of pain she’s feeling. Nursing helps sometimes to relieve the pressure but not always and sometimes seems to exacerbate it.

I have to admit, TLE’s current teething bout plus her newfound mobility is taking a toll on my sanity. She’s so cranky and easily disturbed. Her frequent nursings are driving me bonkers because she’s almost ALWAYS on the boob. When she’s not on the boob, she’s so easily distracted that she’s CONSTANTLY trying to get into things. A lot of the things she’s trying to get into are NO-NO things like electronics or other non-babyproofed things. And when she’s denied what she wants, this girl can HOWL.

I was seriously about to rip my hair out this weekend between her fits. If she wasn’t mad that she wasn’t allowed to play with something, her toofies hurt and vice versa.

I know that this too shall pass and at some point, the little angel (or at least a semblance of it?) may come back but for now, I’m feeling a lot like I did when she had colic: pretty damned helpless.
